Here are places you can borrow money quickly, in decreasing order of riskiness and how fast you need the cash. For comparison sake, for most of the loan options we’ll use a $5,000 loan that you’ll pay off in 3 years; you can plug in your own numbers at Mlcalc.com.
Least Risky Loan: Family and Friends
Borrowing from family or friends can be awkward, but it’s the safest kind of debt, financially at least. If you want to make sure you all feel more comfortable about your loan, draw up repayment terms and work out an interest rate that everyone can agree on. Sites such as iOWEYOU and BillMonk can help you track your personal loan.
If You Need Cash Right This Second
All of the other options for getting money instantly have higher interest rates, so you’ll pay more in the long run. However, if you can pay the money back quickly—e.g., with your next paycheck—you won’t waste too much money on interest, but there may be fees involved and if you can’t pay these back quickly, the interest can snowball and put you even deeper in the hole.
Personal bank loan: Banks and credit unions offer unsecured personal loans (i.e., not backed by something like your house), but you’ll need to have a good credit score to qualify for one of these loans. Bankrate can help you compare personal loan rates in your area. As an example, HSBC’s personal loan ranges from 13.85% to 19.25%.
Credit cards: Most credit cards offer cash advances in the form of a check or ATM access. Interest begins as soon as you take the money out and fees are between 2 and 4 percent. Interest rates can be as high as 25%.
BillFloat: BillFloat is a service that pays your bills for you if you can’t pay in time. It works with companies like State Farm and AT&T and you only need a bank account to get the loan. Repayment happens 30 days later from your bank account automatically, and interest is 3% per month (36% APR) plus a $14.99 fee ($19.99 if you’re in a rush).
Long term loans like a home equity line of credit that you repay over several years have lower interest rates, so they won’t set you back as much to borrow a hefty sum of money. They take a little longer to get, however, and there are still risks involved, especially with loans tied to collateral like your house.
401(k) Loan: If you participate in your company’s 401(k) plan, chances are you can take out as a loan any money you’ve invested in it. Forbes writes that the 401(k) loan may be your best option in a pinch because it doesn’t impact your credit rating, and interest charged on the loan balance goes back into your account (which can make the loan practically free or at least minimal).
Cost: None or minimal.
The risk: If you leave or lose your job before repaying, you only have 60 days to repay; otherwise, you’ll have to pay a 10% early withdrawal penalty if you’re under 59.5 years old. Also, taking out money from your retirement plan will cost you a lot in lost growth. For example, taking $5,000 out of an account earning 8% would cost you $7,060 in lost growth, assuming you have 25 years until retirement and repay the loan in 3 years. (Calculated with Money Chimp’s compound interest calculator.)
Peer-to-Peer Loans: Lendingclub.com and Prosper.com let you get a personal loan from people interested in lending to others as an investment. You’ll need an excellent credit score to get a good interest rate starting at 5%; if you have a poor score, rates can be as high as 35%. There are also fees of between 0.5% and 5% depending on your credit rating.
Cost: Assuming a 12% interest rate on that 3-year $5,000 loan, you’ll pay $978.58 in interest on top of the principal, with monthly payments of $166.07. Plus the origination fee.
The risk: Late fees and credit dings.
Secured Bank Loan: Home equity loans, home equity lines of credit (HELOC), and loans secured by your car or other assets can have attractive interest rates around 5%, depending on your credit score. The risk here is the highest, however. Note that HELOCs have variable interest rates and they work a little differently than a loan in that you withdraw money as you need it.
Loans You Should Avoid
Stay away from predatory loans like payday loans or ones from pawnshops. It may seem like the charges aren’t that much, but when you look at the interest rates, they can be as high as 800%!
The term instant loan can sound extremely appealing, especially if you are in the middle of a financial crisis or you have bad credit and you have been previously turned down when you have asked the bank for loans. If your rent is due tomorrow or your family has no money to eat, then all of those advertisements on television and the radio for instant cash with no credit check can be irresistible. You will just take out a small, quick loan to cover your emergency, then you can pay it back as soon as you get your next pay check and put the whole thing behind you.
Or maybe you are expecting a big tax refund and you have already imagined about a million different ways to spend it. You want to take a vacation with your family, or get some cool new clothes, or make some kind of big ticket electronics purchase. You deserve it, after all, you have already earned that money. It seems like you have been waiting to get your refund check for forever, though. You are sick of postponing your big purchase and you are considering using one of the many instant refund services you have seen advertised lately. The way you see it, you will not even really be taking out a loan. You will just be paying for the convenience of getting your refund, which you already have coming to you, sooner rather than later.
When you go to an instant loan place, you write a check payable to the lender for an amount of money that you would like to borrow, plus a fee for borrowing the money. At a payday loan place, this amount would usually be the amount of your next pay check and at a tax refund loan place the amount would be your anticipated refund amount. Then, the loan place gives you the cash for the check, minus the fee. So if you wrote a check for $100, you would get $85 and the extra $15 would be the fee you were paying to borrow the money. The loan place would agree to hold your check until a certain date, like your next pay day, before they cashed it. Then you would walk out with your $85 and the loan place would cash your $100 on your next pay day.
Ideally, in this scenario, you would be giving up $15 from your paycheck to get that other $85 a bit early. In most instances, though, the loan does not work like that. Instead, you might end up needing your whole paycheck. In this case, you roll the loan over and agree to pay another $15. Every time you roll the loan, you agree to another $15. This means that the annual percentage rate on your instant loan would be 391%. If it took you a year to pay the money back, you would owe nearly four times the amount you originally borrowed, just in fees. Even the credit cards with the highest interest rates would not have charged you even 10% of that to borrow money.
Before you grab that instant cash, you had better stop and think about exactly what sort of agreement you are getting into. These instant loan places, also called payday loan, deferred deposit loan, check advance or post dated check places, operate by lending desperate people small amounts of money for short periods for outrageously high interest rates. In fact, taking out an instant loan is one of the worst possible ways to borrow money.
Have you ever been curious as to why people combine cinnamon and honey for weight loss purposes? Below, we will explore the science behind this combination and exactly why it is effective for weight loss.
When losing weight, it is all about keeping blood sugar levels stable in order to prevent cravings. If you do this, you are guaranteed to have a very easy time losing weight because you will not have to deal with cravings. The way cravings are produced is simple:
1. You ingest some sort of carbohydrate. Your body digests it and glucose is released into your bloodstream and as a result you have more energy.
2. In response to this, the pancreas begins to secrete insulin, which is the body’s storage hormone. It signals the body to begin storing the glucose into fat and muscle cells.
3. Insulin will drop your blood sugar quickly, leading you to experience a sugar crash and crave something sweet in order to feel more energetic.
4. This cycle can continue, leading to overeating which will lead to weight gain.
Cinnamon has some very interesting effects on blood sugar which make it a very effective weight loss tool. Cinnamon has been proven to act as a strong glucose disposal agent. This means that when you ingest cinnamon with some carbohydrates, the cinnamon will influence your body to store the carbohydrates you eat instead of releasing them into your blood stream. The main benefit of this is stable blood sugar levels, which will keep insulin and cravings low. In fact, cinnamon is so effective that it is often included in products found in vitamin stores intended for pre-diabetic and diabetic people to manage their blood sugar levels and depend less on insulin. The carbohydrates will be stored primarily in your muscles, refilling the muscle glycogen. If you do not exercise and your glycogen stores are full, then it may be converted into fat and stored in fat cells (you do not have to worry about this as long as you are in a calorie deficit). The difference between a glucose disposal agent such as cinnamon and insulin is that the glucose disposal agent will generally make sure that the glucose goes straight into storage instead of being released into your blood stream.
Although honey is composed mainly of fructose, glucose, and water, its effects on blood sugar have been studied and it was found to have a much lower effect on blood sugar levels than refined sugar. Additionally, it has many antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals which also help out on any diet.
Cinnamon and Honey
Why Cinnamon and Honey for weight loss? The primary reason for consuming cinnamon and honey together is to cover up the cinnamon’s taste. If you go to youtube, and search for “cinnamon challenge”, you will see how people ingest large quantities of cinnamon and end up coughing violently because of how the huge quantity of cinnamon irritated their mouths. Additionally, the cinnamon and honey together will taste good, keep blood sugar stable, and keep you full for a long period of time.
Testosterone Pills can be an extremely effective way to dramatically and quickly reshape your body. Testosterone Pills is a pretty broad term in general, so let’s narrow this term for the sake of this article first before proceeding further. Testosterone itself is the primary male androgen which gives men their defining secondary sexual features such as a deeper voice, more muscle mass and less body fat compared to women, and more body hair. Testosterone itself is considered an anabolic steroid, and it a Schedule III drug in the United States. However, comparable legal alternatives do exist and we will explore them below.
What are Testosterone Pills?
If you hear a person talking about testosterone pills, they are referring to some sort of oral anabolic steroid. An anabolic steroid is essentially the testosterone molecule modified slightly in order to give it slightly different effects compared to testosterone while still retaining the main effect of encouraging the body to build muscle and burn fat. The most thoroughly researched and safe anabolic steroids such as Dianabol, Testosterone, and Anavar are all are schedule III, meaning it is only available through a doctor’s prescription and illegal possession or sale of these drugs will result in harsh penalties.
Comparable legal alternatives to steroids which exist are essentially completely active legal oral anabolic steroids, more commonly known as “pro-hormones” or “designer steroids”. Some examples of effective and well known products include Methylstenbolone, Epistane, and Halodrol amongst many others. These products should be taken with extreme caution and proper research, as they can permanently alter a man’s endocrine system. In general, designer steroids were abandoned while in development by Drug Manufacturers in the mid 1960′s because the Drug Manufacturer found them to be to unsafe or ineffective. The Drug Manufacturers instead focused their efforts on developing safer and more effective steroids which could be FDA approved and used in medicine (the very same ones that are Schedule III today).
Alternatively, Testosterone Boosters also exist which work to boost a man’s testosterone instead of replacing his natural testosterone production with an exogenous source as steroids do. To be sure, testosterone boosters will not get you results anywhere near steroids, but they can boost the results of an already effective diet and exercise plan by 5-10%. Some examples of well known testosterone boosters include D-Aspartic Acid and herbs such as tribulus terrestris or Tongkat Ali. Over the long term, these are a much safer alternative to the designer steroids/ prohormones and what I would recommend.
First and foremost, you need to have your diet and training locked in. This means eating healthy and getting the most nutrition out of your calories. This also means emphasizing cardio in your training in any form (even walking counts as cardio!). Combine the two, and get to a 500 calorie deficit per day. This will set you up to lose one pound of fat per week.
After you have done the above, you need to realize that in a calorie deficit, testosterone levels and your metabolism in general tend to drop the longer you diet. This is completely natural, and also the reason why many long term dieters hit plateaus where they cannot lose additional weight. With a testosterone booster, you can greatly delay this drop in testosterone and allow for prolonged dieting where you are getting optimal results. One of the most effective testosterone boosters is D-Aspartic Acid, which has been shown to increase testosterone by 42% in this study:
In this article we will be going over how to do the smoothie diet to quickly and effectively lose weight. This diet combines ideas from several other eating philosophies including veganism, Fruititarian Dieting ( the 80-10-10 diet), and the Fruit Detox Diet.
The main idea of this diet are that you will lean out quickly, pump your body with a lot of vitamins, minerals, and cancer preventing phyto-nutrients, and lose weight because the fiber from the fruits and vegetables will keep you feeling full the whole time. People generally do this diet for a few days, followed by a few days of normal eating and repeat as they see fit until they are at their goal.
The reason for doing this diet in “rounds” of several days and not a longer period of time is to prevent your metabolism from decreasing. This diet is very low in fat and protein, and to do it for a long period of time will be hazardous to your health and will cause your body to compensate by lowering your metabolism. Your body needs dietary fats to produce your body’s hormones and it needs protein to repair tissue. If your body begins to sense that there is very little fat and protein in your diet, you will begin experiencing side effects such as extremely poor cognition, bad moods, and low energy. In order to help counter this, I recommend eating a few almonds every day as a great fat source and avoiding any exercise other than walking. By avoiding strenuous exercise, you won’t need as much protein and can focus on your diet and weight loss.
Diet Equipment and Time Requirements
This diet will require some minor dedication and expense on your part, but the results will be worth it.
You will need:
-a high performance blender
-time to go to the store every 1-2 days to get fresh fruits and vegetables
-Access to your blender throughout the day to prepare your smoothies fresh.
Alternatively, if you are short on time or have a busy schedule you can save time by:
-buying frozen fruits and vegetables.
-Going to a health food store or restaurant such as Jamba Juice and ordering a fruit smoothie from there.
Which is better for you: Creatine Powder or Creatine Pills? In general, creatine itself is very cheap and easy to produce, so in all in all it simply boils down to price vs. convenience. In this article, we will compare one popular brand of creatine monohydrate powder and one popular brand of creatine pills.
Now Brand Creatine Monohydrate Powder:
Priced at $6.16 for 227 grams, this is can be enough to last a few months to a year, depending on your needs.
Compare this to Optimum Nutrition Brand Creatine Capsules, priced at $10.99 for 50 servings of 2.5 grams of creatine monohydrate. If you do the math, that is 100 grams of creatine in the bottle at twice the price compared to NOW brand Creatine Monohydrate.
On the other hand, the NOW brand does not contain any scoops in the container, so you will have to purchase your own teaspoon in order to get consistent dosages each time. Having tried the NOW Brand myself, I can personally say that the powder mixes well and has no unpleasant taste at all. Overall, if I saw that the Optimum Nutrition brand of creatine had some sort of fancy premium sounding type of creatine like creatine ethyl ester or creatine nitrate, then I could see how they might be justified at being 4x as expensive as the NOW brand. However, in this case the only difference between the two products is that with the NOW brand, in order to get 5 grams of creatine monohydrate you would consume 1 teaspoon of powder mixed in water while with the Optimum Nutrition Brand you would consume 4 pills.
Having had personal experience with both brands, I can safely say that they are both top notch and legitimate products. I recommend buying the NOW brand Creatine Monohydrate and also going to your local grocery store and purchasing measuring spoons if you do not already have some in your kitchen. The measuring spoons come in a detachable ring with 1/4 tsp , 1/2 tsp , 1 tsp , and 1 tbsp and normally run $4.
Whey Protein has many benefits for weight loss. The main benefit it has over meat and plant based protein is that you only get protein without any added fat or carbohydrates while still getting the benefit of long term hunger satiety that protein provides.
-Protein Sparing Modified Fast: In this sort of diet, you basically eat half of what you normally eat in a day and consume all of your calories from protein. A simplified version of this can be to have 3-4 protein shakes in a day as the only food you consume, in addition to some green vegetables to help cover your vitamins and minerals. If you hate vegetables, I recommend taking broccoli or Brussels sprouts and microwaving them. This removes most of the taste while retaining the vitamins and minerals.
Steaming Broccoli has actually been shown to be much more harmful than microwaving for retaining the vitamins and minerals found in the broccoli.
The idea behind this diet is simple: you are starving yourself in a severe calorie deficit, but because you are consuming a moderate amount of protein, your body will burn your fat while sparing your muscle. Instead of your body breaking down your muscle for the amino acids it needs for various metabolic processes, it will use the protein you consume.
Absolutely include 2-3 pieces of fruit in here as well. My personal favorite is 2 apples and 1 serving of blueberries. Without fruit in this diet, you will be sluggish and irritable because your diet will be lacking in carbohydrates. With fruit, you will have sustain energy because the fructose found in most fruit will replenish your liver glycogen stores. Because you are in a defecit, you will never have to worry about having the fructose from the fruit turn into fat!
Acetyl L Carnitine
After relying on caffiene pills, diet coke, B-complex vitamins, and Monster energy drinks for a long time, I decided it was time for a real change. We are talking about a period of around 6 months where, on average, I would spend about $6 per day on energy drinks alone. I realize that most people who go to Starbucks probably spend about that much as well, but comparing the health effects of coffee and energy drinks is like comparing one of the most widely studied substances known to man (coffee/ caffiene) against a “killer brew” which has been linked to numerous deaths (Monster Energy drink). For the recored during this period I drank almost exclusively low-carb Monsters Monster energy drinks because they taste much better than coffee and have a better effect.
I decided that although I liked the effect the Monsters had on my cognition/ energy, the health risks, price, and occasional insomnia were not worth it. I decided to look at the individual ingredients of the monster can to create my own cheaper, more effective, and safer version.
Glucose and Maltodextrin: These are added only for taste. These account for the 3 grams of sugars found in the drink per serving.
Taurine: Based on my own experiences, Taurine does not do much at all (when taken alone at least). The only effects I have ever noticed from Taurine was that I became a bit more sedated. Perhaps this is supposed to synergize with the caffiene and prevent any anxiety or nervousness you might get.
Inositol: This has proven anti-anxiety properties. This is added to fight any nervousness that you might get from the caffiene.
Guarana: A Natural form of caffiene.
Glucuronolactone: Again one of those substances with very few studies.
L-Carnitine: A lot of studies on this substance exist. Claims to help mobilize fat energy from fat cells so it can be used up as energy. Variations such as ALCAR exist. Useful as a pre-workout supplement.
Panax Ginseng: Has long been used as a source of energy. Different types exist, such as Serbian Ginseng and Korean Ginseng. The most effective type is reported to be Korean Ginseng.
Aside from caffiene and B vitamins which I already had plenty of in the form of caffiene pills and B-complex supplements, the only other source of energy with proven effects was L-Carnitine and Panax Ginseng.
1. Panax Ginseng: I decided to try out Panax Ginseng first. I decided to go to my local health food store and try it out. My intention was that if it did not work, I could return it and if it did work I would know its effects. After trying out a Korean Ginseng (it was Panax Ginseng Extract standardized to a certain percentage) from my local Sprouts Farmers Market, I immediately saw where the Monster got most of its energy producing effects from and why Monster always gave me a lot more energy than other energy drinks on the market. Overall however, the Ginseng did not produce any cognitive benefits and gave me way to much energy to be of use for what I was looking for: something to help me be more effective mentally. I ended up returning the Panax Ginseng.
2. ALCAR: Instead of getting L-Carnitine, I decided to go to Amazon for its very closely related cousin ALCAR. ALCAR is truly where most of Monster’s cognitive benefits come from (aside from caffiene, which are negligible to anyone with a caffiene tolerance) I tried 2 different brands.
First, I tried NOW Brand Acetyl-L-Carnitine. I went with the Now Brand because of several reasons:
1. All of the other supplements I had ever purchased from NOW brands were legitimate and effective.
2. More importantly, there was a small size available on Alcar of 50 caps of 500mgs for around $10 including shipping. This is at least a whole month’s supply, so I decided to try it.
After seeing how effective it was, I decided to order more. This time, I was going for something which gave me a lot more ALCAR for less money. After looking around on Amazon, I found that Primaforce Brand ALCAR was by far the best value when taking into account brand reputation.
Both brands are legitimate, but Primaforce provides a MUCH better value in terms of what you get for your money. One can of the Primaforce can easily last you for a whole year, with 500 servings. It comes with a small scoop and has no taste if you mix it in with a glass of water. With the Now Brand ALCAR, I noticed how I had much more motivation and energy. With the Primaforce Brand ALCAR I was able to take more generous dosages because it was more affordable and after increasing the dosage to 2 grams a day I saw a huge surge of energy. If you did not have a good night’s sleep, this supplement will make your whole day a LOT smoother. In fact, I would even go as far to say that this supplement’s effect is just a small notch behind the ADHD drugs such as Adderall and Vyvanse. This supplement is different in that while it provides all the motivation, memory improvement, and energy, it does not have any of the euphoria (no “high”) or crash.
My Experience with ALCAR:
I used it consistently before studying or training for the major focus effects, but I was also aware of its other benefits like neuroprotection. Well recently (as in, 2 months ago), I changed my ALCAR dosing. Rather than taking it sporadically whenever I needed a boost, I use 1-2g every day, split into 1g doses. Over the past 2 months, I have noticed a vast change in my life and I really want to help others realize just how significant this ingredient is.
From my consistent usage, I have noticed a DRAMATIC increase in sharpness and memory. As far as school goes, I need far less time to get my assignments done. I am notorious for making silly mistakes in math exams/homework etc…I always get the concepts but the silly mistakes kill me. Well, in the past 2 months, I have lost a total of 1 point in my math class. I’m not saying this to brag, but my point is that this has never occurred in the past: my study habits quite literally haven’t changed one bit. In fact, a 2nd consecutive 100% on a very long math exam (not multiple choice; just tons of calculations) prompted me to write this because I feel that others stand to benefit from this as well. To put it simply, I feel sharp and focused all the time, and can recall things from memory with more ease than ever.
But there are other things I’ve noticed too — major things. I still drink occasionally, and when I drink, it’s usually quite a bit. During the following days, or even the entire following week, I feel foggier. ALCAR seems to reverse these effects if taken at 2g prior to drinking as I have. This makes sense scientifically as well, as ALCAR is demonstrated to help prevent alcohol-induced neurodegeneration.
Finally, something I’ve been enjoying: vivid, and even LUCID, dreams. The mental stimulation caused by ALCAR likely causes this, and it is awesome. I can’t stress enough that these benefits did not manifest themselves until I used ALCAR continuously at 1-2g/day, rather than sporadically. I feel sharper, I feel happier, I feel on-top-of-things. I sleep better. Anyway, that’s my story. Just wanted to get the word out because this ingredient does not get nearly the amount of love that it should. A true staple for me.
